The olive mill is a real, guided, 30-minute stop with a tasting, but you are booking an off-road drive that includes an olive mill, not an olive oil tour that happens to use buggies.

That framing is what makes it good value at $74 if it is what you want. You drive yourself from Agia Pelagia on dirt tracks through groves and up quiet mountain roads, with sea views for much of the route and a guide leading the convoy.

The mill stop is at the Museum of the Olive Tree and Oil at Striligkas, where both the old stone-and-press method and the modern centrifugal process are explained before a tasting of oil and local products. From there the route passes through Achlada, an abandoned village still standing among the mountains, and finishes with free time in Fodele — a green, river-fed village that claims El Greco as its own.

Practical limits matter here more than on the tasting tours. You need a licence held for a year, you must be 18 to drive, and the buggy takes 190 kg between driver and passenger. There is no hotel pickup: Agia Pelagia is about 25 km west of Heraklion and you arrange your own transport, arriving half an hour early for the briefing.
